Many people have begun to notice that their bodies can use some improvement. Years of scientific data and research have concluded that weight training can enhance the health and quality of life of men and women alike.

Unfortunately, many people confuse weight training with “body building” which in itself is weight training, but with much more extreme goals in mind. The average person, unless specifically attempting to, will not transform their body into the muscle monsters they see on TV. Weight training is simply using weights to build muscle strength, endurance, and sometimes shape and size. However, the benefits of weight training run much deeper than outward appearance.

Weight Training is Good for Overall Health

When the muscles are trained they send many different signals to the body in the form of chemicals like hormones which, over time, start optimizing and changing the body’s chemical and physical state for the better; our bodies are genetically programed to respond to this “stress”. Weight training stimulates the muscles to better utilize nutrients and helps regulate blood glucose levels reducing the risk of diseases such as diabetes, an ever growing problem. The stimulation of the muscles with weight training also helps our immune system to not only respond better, but stronger.

Weight Training Can Benefit Women

Weight training can also benefit women as well. Many women are afraid that if they use weights to train they will turn into large, masculine looking females. This is simply not true. The hormones and chemical balances of women prevent this type of result very well and any woman that weight trains can attest to it. Women who weight train see strong gains in overall health just as men do.

The goal of weight training is not exclusively to look “bigger” as the type of weight training you perform dictates the results. If your goal is to lose weight than weight training can help you because statistically it burns more calories than cardiovascular exercise alone. If your goal is to feel better, weight training can improve most biological functions by regulating chemical and hormonal balances. As long as weight training is done correctly, with goals in mind, strong commitment, and under the approval of your doctor it has tremendous results with both physical and mental well-being. Our bodies have evolved this way and the more we exploit the knowledge we have of this the more we can reap the benefits.

Athletes across the world spend years of their life carefully training to become the best they can at their sport. Whether it be cycling, running, weight lifting, or a team sport such as football, training is the key to success. Everyone trains for their favored activity in their own way among the many infinite methods that are possible and available, and the results vary greatly between training methods. You may have heard of two of the common methods known as cross-training and natural training. Today we will discuss and compare these two common training methods.

Cross-Training

Cross-training is known to use several activities to improve a specific activity. A common example is running. Someone who wants to run marathons will often run to their full potential several times a week along with adding other exercises such as weight training, swimming, and bicycling on other days. It has been found that the combination of exercises develops a skill to its full potential by strengthening every muscle.

Natural Training

Natural training is simply focusing on a specific activity with the use of nothing beside a persons natural body weight. A runner who follows a natural training technique will run up and down hills each day to perfect their performance, along with natural exercises such as pushups or crunches.

Cross-training is a great method of developing your entire body, and natural training helps you perfect a specific activity. It is simply a matter of choice between the two because neither training method has been proven to be better than the other. Speak with a fitness expert or personal trainer to help you decide which training method is best for you.
